The Government on 21 November 2023 announced that they would accept the Low Pay Commission’s recommendations on minimum wage rates, the largest increase in more than a decade.
These changes will apply from 1 April 2024.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt also announced that the living wage will be extended and apply to those aged 21 and over (previously only applying to those aged 23 and over).
The new rates for 2024 will be as follows:
Age | New rate from April 2024 |
21 and over | £11.44 (increase of £1.02) |
18 – 20 | £8.60 (increase of £1.11) |
16 – 17 | £6.40 (increase of £1.12) |
Apprentices (aged under 19 and or aged over 19 in the first year of their apprenticeship) | £6.40 (increase of £1.12) |
Accommodation offset limit | £9.99 per day (increase of 89p) |
The increase will mean that a full time worker on the National Living Wage will receive a pay-rise of over £1,800-a-year.
